why am I mothermoses?

In September 2004 I was blessed to accompany a group from LifeChurch.tv In Oklahoma City to Harlingen, Texas, for missionary work into Matamoros, Mexico, just across the border.

Since we paired up with Holy Cross Mission in Harlingen, they supplied the transportation, agenda, and food & lodging. And we met some wonderful people there to guide us. With their experience, we shared several days of prayer and ministry. Some of that ministry included sharing the Gospel in places where they have come to treasure moments in hearing the Word of God. Using a translator it grew apparent that the missionaries at Holy Cross expected us to "preach" on our visits in Mexico. None of us, however, considered ourselves preachers!

By the third day, however, I was almost looking forward to "preaching" and was praying for guidance. Then it happened! At Fantasy Island, I was given the opportunity that we'd been dreading. Given a large group of children from all over the island, I sat in the midst of them and let God take over my thoughts and my words. It was awesome. It came from a story that I learned while tutoring with the Whiz Kids Program in Denver, Colorado, for inner city children.

So, as I, through a translator, instructed the children to clean out their heart to accept Jesus, much like their mother cleans the house to accept visitors, these kids were almost spellbound on every word. Jesus was there, and he touched the hearts of many who were there.

And it was immediately after that that one of the full time missionaries of the Holy Cross Ministries named me "MotherMoses" and knowing the story of Moses I could not deny it.

What a powerful lesson I learned from that "preaching" and what a powerful message Jesus gave those kids that day. Lord, thank you for using me.
